Chapter 1- Introduction to Business Analysis

Purpose of B.A.BOK ?

The original purpose of BABOK Guide is to define the working of Business Analysis and provides  a collection of commonly accepted practices. It helps a business analyst define and discuss the required skills important to perform business analysis work. It also helps to understand the people who work with business analyst to know the skill set required by the person they are hiring.
This guide is a common structure for all perspective, defining B.A. tasks that are conducted to properly analyze a change or evaluate the required for a change.

Six knowledge areas of BABOK

  • Business Analysis Planning and Monitoring: It is start the process of project with analyzing the information without the concern about ending the project.
  • Elicitation and Collaboration: It is practice of research and discovering the requirement from users customers and stakeholders.
  • Requirements life-cycle management: In order to manage and maintain requirements and design information from inspection to retirement and design, and assessing analyzing and gaining coherence on proposed change to requirements design,
  • Strategy Analysis: In order to identify a need of strategic for change with higher and lower strategies. 
  • Requirements Analysis and Design Definition (RADD): Tasks to perform structure and organize requirements realized during elicitation activities ranging from the initial concept and exploration of the needs. 
  • Solutions Evaluation: The task performed to assess the performance of and value delivered by a solution in use by the company and to stop that prevent the full realization of the value.
All the above knowledge areas are applied under certain boundaries, usually project guidelines under which the organisation continuously evolve and improve.

TASKS of Business Analyst:

It is a discrete piece of work that may be performed formally or informally as part of business analysis. These tasks can be performed in any order as long as the necessary outcomes of the task are achieved.
The format in which tasks can be presented:
Purpose:It provides a short description of the reason for a business analyst to perform the task.
Description:It explains in greater details what the task is and reason to perform it.
Inputs:It is the information consumed or transformed to produce an output. 
Elements:The elements describe the key concepts that are required to understand how to perform the task.
Guidelines/Tools: The guidelines and tools section lists the resources that are necessary to convert an input to output.
Techniques:The techniques that can be used to perform B.A. tasks.
Stakeholders:The generic list of stakeholders who are likely to perform the tasks who are likely to be effected by them.
Outputs:This describes the result produced by performing the tasks.

TECHNIQUES

Techniques provide the additional information on ways that a task can be performed . There are multiple techniques with which the tasks can be performed.

  • Usage Considerations
The business analysts can modify or alter the existing techniques or create new ones depending on the situation, need and goal of the tasks they are performing.

This really helped grasp the key concepts of this chapter and understand the six knowledge areas, Tasks and the techniques used by business analyst described in B.A.BOK which are the core of Business Analysis and helped me understand that the techniques or tasks can be performed in non sequential ways but only necessary thing is to reach the required output.This also helps in understanding the tasks performed by business analyst which might help in hiring right person for the job.

In addition, this concept also helps to evaluate the necessity for a change in task or project and to become successful in the career of business analysis. on the other hand, six knowledge areas of BABOK introduce us with the main subjects of business profession. They are accordingly: Business Analysis Planning and Monitoring, Elicitation and Collaboration, Requirements Life Cycle Management, Strategy Analysis, Requirements Analysis and Design Definition (RADD). These areas of BABOK helps us to become professional in career.

Business Analysis Planning and Monitoring The Business Analysis Planning and Monitoring knowledge area is the process of determining which activities will be required to organize and coordinate the tasks of Business analysts and stakeholders and are used to produce the required output that act as the key guidelines for other tasks. The core concepts of a Business Analysis Planning and Monitoring include: Change, Need, Solution, Stakeholders, Value and Context The Business Analysis Planning and Monitoring includes tasks explained here: 1.   Plan Business Analysis Approach : This purpose of this approach is used to describe the overall method and techniques followed to determine how and when the tasks will be performed and what deliverables are to be produced. ·       Inputs: Needs: The approach of Business Analysis is shaped according to the need of the company. It is necessary to consider what is the ne
