The Business Analysis Planning and Monitoring knowledge area is the process of determining which activities will be required to organize and coordinate the tasks of Business analysts and stakeholders and are used to produce the required output that act as the key guidelines for other tasks. The Business Analysis Planning and Monitoring includes tasks explained here:

1.  Plan Business Analysis Approach: This purpose of this approach is used to describe the overall method and techniques followed to determine how and when the tasks will be performed and what deliverables are to be produced.

·      Inputs:

Needs: The approach of Business Analysis is shaped according to the need of the company. It is necessary to consider what is the need at the time of planning and can evolve throughout the process.

·      Elements: The elements to consider while planning a Business Analysis method:

·         Planning Approach

·        Formality and Level of Detail of Business Analysis Deliverables

·        Business Analysis Activities

·        Timing of Business Analysis Work

·        Complexity and Risk

·        Acceptance



Ø Various Guidelines and tools are used to plan business analysis planning approach:

• Business Analysis Performance Assessment:

• Business Policies

• Expert Judgment

• Methodologies and Frameworks

• Stakeholder Engagement Approach

·      Stakeholders:

• Domain Subject Matter Expert:

This can be a source of risk when the stakeholder involvement is required however is not available. This method may depend on their involvement and availability.

• Project Manager: It determines whether the approach will be successfully able to complete the task on the specific due-dates and is compatible with other tasks.

• Regulator: Regulator is the person who approves the decisions made in applying the process and other aspects of business analysis approach.

• Sponsor: Determines the needs and objectives of the approach and ensure that organizational policies are being followed or not. However, it may also vary according to the availability and involvement.



·      OUTPUTS:

The final determined Business Analysis approach allocates the responsibilities, tasks and identifies the timing and in what order the tasks will be performed. It also determines what deliverables will be produced and which techniques will be utilized.

   

2.                        Plan Business Analysis Governance:

A governance process identifies the decision makers, process, and information required for decisions to be made. It is the Duty of Business Analyst to ensure that there are not any confusions in governance process. The inputs used are:

• Stakeholder Engagement Approach



The elements used to perform this includes:

Decision Making

Change Control Process

Plan Prioritization Approach

Plan for Approvals



The Various Guidelines and Tools used for planning Business Analysis Governance:

Business Analysis Performance Assessment, Business Policies, Current State Description, Legal/Regulatory Information.


The different techniques used determine the output of Governance that which stakeholder will be responsible for making decisions, who will set up the priorities and who will approve the changes.

  1. Business Analysis Planning and Monitoring plays a vital role in finalizing the activities which are required in coordinating and organizing the activities required by Business Analysis. This blog helped me understand such activities more conceptually and the types and variants of such activities. The importance of stakeholders seems very clear in the chapter and in the blog. The guidelines provided by B.A.BOK are very clearly stated in this blog. This blog also states that how the different activities are responsible for the different outputs in governance of which stakeholder will be responsible for making decisions and setting up priorities.

This method is very important for the stakeholders because it helps to understand stakeholder, the different techniques used to determine the output of Governance as they are responsible for making decisions and set up the priorities of who will approve the changes.   3. The tasks described here for Business Planning and Monitoring are really helpful to understand them. However, along with these tasks another tasks in this planning and monitoring process also includes: Planning Stakeholder Engagement, Business Analysis Information Management and identifying Business Analysis Performance Improvements. These tasks along with the described above makes it really easy to organize and conduct various activities.
